SC Magdeburg Defeats Bietigheim by a Wide Margin

SC Magdeburg has returned to winning ways in the Handball Bundesliga. In front of 6,423 spectators, the team from Magdeburg defeated SG BBM Bietigheim 33–24 (16–11). Magdeburg’s top scorers were Antonio Serradilla and Matthias Musche, each with six goals. 

The German champions were without Elvar Örn Jonsson, who was out sick; however, both U18 European champions, Malte Elze and Tim Thielicke, were included in the matchday roster for the first time. In addition, captain Magnus Saugstrup started on the bench after suffering a laceration in the cup match. 

Magdeburg Struggled Offensively Before the Break

Magdeburg nevertheless took an early three-goal lead (4–1, 7th min.), but then repeatedly failed to capitalize on scoring opportunities. After just under 15 minutes, SCM coach Bennet Wiegert called a timeout, which was followed by a 4-0 run by the hosts.

After the break, the SCM picked up the pace slightly and pulled ahead by seven goals for the first time. Although they lacked focus until the very end, the victory was nonetheless a commanding one.
