German handball champions SC Magdeburg have secured the services of Elvar Örn Jónsson. The Icelandic international will move from Bundesliga rivals MT Melsungen to Saxony-Anhalt on July 1, 2025. The 27-year-old backcourt player signed a three-year contract in Magdeburg.
"With Elvar, we are gaining a complete player who can be deployed flexibly both in the inner block of defense and in attack. He is currently putting in another impressive performance this season," said Bennet Wiegert, Head Coach and Managing Director Sport at SCM. Jónsson has played for Melsungen since 2021 and is one of the Bundesliga leaders' key players. His contract with the club from Northern Hesse expires at the end of the season.
