Leaders SC Magdeburg have notched up another home win in the German Handball League. The club from the city on the Elbe beat HC Erlangen 35:31 (15:14). Omar Ingi Magnusson was Magdeburg's top scorer with fourteen goals.
In the first leg, Magdeburg had suffered its first loss in the league - SCM took an early two-goal lead in front of its home crowd. Erlangen worked its way into the game with a strong goalkeeping performance and was able to equalize in the meantime. Magdeburg's shooting percentage was 60 percent at times due to a lack of concentration. Erlangen even led shortly before the break, but Magdeburg turned the game around by the half-time whistle.
Erlangen began the second half with a series of missed attempts and Magdeburg pulled five goals ahead (19:14/36). One week before the cup final four in Cologne, the SCM also conserved some energy, but Erlangen only scored the final goal after 53 minutes because the SCM lost concentration. However, SCM remained unimpressed, pulled away again and decided the game.
