The SC DHfK Leipzig handball team was unable to spring a surprise in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Frank Carstens was beaten 28:36 (18:18) at SG Flensburg-Handewitt on Saturday evening despite a courageous performance. In front of 6,300 spectators, international Franz Semper scored eight goals against his former club and so became the best scorer for SC DHfK, which slipped to last place with 8:38 points.
Six days after the sobering 28:35 home defeat in the basement duel against Bergischer HC, Leipzig started the game with a lot of energy and developed great penetrating power, especially at the back. The visitors were not deterred by an early red card against center Moritz Preuss (6th minute) and took an 11:9 lead midway through the first half. William Bogojevic was also sent off shortly before the break.
Without their top scorer to date, Leipzig found it much more difficult in attack after the break. Nevertheless, they remained level at 20:20 (40') before Flensburg stepped up the pace and pulled 26:21 (45') ahead with a 6:1 run. The visitors were unable to find an answer after that.
