The handball players of SC DHfK Leipzig have been relegated to the second division. The team coached by Frank Carstens lost 28:30 (17:18) in its last away game in the Bundesliga for the time being at TBV Lemgo Lippe in the evening, thus finally ending its minimal chance of relegation.
Franz Semper and Blaer Hinriksson were the best scorers for the last-placed team in the table with five goals each, who will finish the season with a home game against GWD Minden on Sunday.
Decision late on
The Leipzig club got off to a furious start to the game and initially impressed with its wit and merciless efficiency in finishing. They led 14:11 after 14 minutes in an open exchange of blows, but the Lemgo side then turned the game around by changing goalkeepers. The visitors now despaired of Constantin Möstl by the dozen and fell just behind by the break.
The Leipzig club was not discouraged, however, and forced a duel at eye level with the favorites in the second half thanks to improved defensive work. It was only in the final spell that Lemgo produced a 5:2 run to pull 29:26 ahead in the 55th minute.
