He has been injured since the beginning of the year. SC Magdeburg have now announced that Manuel Zehnder will no longer be wearing the SCM jersey from next summer. He explains why himself.

Swiss national handball player Manuel Zehnder will leave SC Magdeburg after this season. The contract of the 26-year-old backcourt player, who has had to sit out since the beginning of January due to a serious knee injury, will also end next summer.

"The decision to leave Magdeburg was not an easy one for me," said Zehnder: "I want to give it my all once again and win titles with SCM before I start a new chapter."

Where Zehnder will play from next summer has not been announced. He moved to Magdeburg from ThSV Eisenach in August 2024. He was top scorer in the previous season. He suffered the knee injury while playing for the Swiss national team.

Not the only one who will no longer play for Magdeburg

"We will miss Manu as a player and as a person. We would have loved to continue working with him on his development. However, after our discussions in recent weeks, I can understand his decision," emphasized coach Bennet Wiegert. He did not rule out working together again in the future.

The SCM also announced this week that 35-year-old former international Tim Hornke will end his career next summer.
