RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose has expressed his confidence in goalkeeper Janis Blaswich after his recent slip-ups. "If you perform as consistently as Janis over a year, then I can't see that we need to worry about anything," said the 47-year-old.
Blaswich, who was called up to the national team for the first time in November, conceded a goal in both Wolfsburg and Dortmund due to two mistakes. While Leipzig lost in Wolfsburg, the slip-up had no consequences in the 3:2 win at BVB. Blaswich also showed signs of uncertainty against Heidenheim.
The 32-year-old will nevertheless have to make way for the goal against Young Boys Bern in the Champions League on Wednesday (18:45/DAZN). Rose keeps his promise and gives Peter Gulacsi match practice. The 33-year-old tore his cruciate ligament in October 2022 and had been captain and undisputed key player until then.
The Hungarian international goalkeeper is aiming to play at the European Championships in Germany. To do so, he needs match practice, which he is unlikely to get in Leipzig. Nevertheless, Rose expects the veteran to remain in Leipzig for the second half of the season. "There are no signs at all that Pete is in any way thinking about doing something new," said the coach. "Unfortunately, we can't make any headlines."
