After an extraordinarily successful year, the head coach is leaving the Weißenfels basketball team. His successor comes from Italy.

The basketball players of the Syntainics MBC are starting the coming season with Marco Ramondino as their new head coach. The Italian succeeds Janis Gailitis, who is leaving the MBC after just one year following the most successful season in the club's history, which saw it win the DBB Cup and reach the quarter-finals of the play-offs. The Latvian is moving to a renowned club abroad; most recently there was talk of an engagement in France.

For the 42-year-old Ramondino, the MBC is his first foreign engagement. After several stints as an assistant coach, he took up his first head coaching position at second-division club CZG Veroli in 2013. Most recently, he coached the first-division club Scafati Basket for four months.

Gailitis exercises agreed exit clause

A year ago, Gailtis also took up his first engagement outside his native Latvia at the MBC. The most successful season in the club's history, which saw it win the cup and finish eighth in the Bundesliga, bears his signature. The 40-year-old has now exercised his contractually agreed exit option.
