RB coach Ole Werner had hoped for a home game in the cup. That didn't work out. The Saxons have the toughest possible draw.

Bundesliga leaders against Bundesliga runners-up: RB Leipzig have drawn the toughest possible draw for the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. The Saxons must travel to FC Bayern Munich. This was the result of the draw made by former player and coach Friedhelm Funkel at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. The quarter-final matches will be played on February 3 and 4 and February 10 and 11, 2026; the exact dates have not yet been determined.

RB's Managing Director of Sport Marcel Schäfer took the draw in a sporting spirit. "This is of course the toughest possible draw for us and an absolute cracker in this DFB Cup quarter-final. The 0:6 from the first matchday will no longer play a role in our minds, we're a completely different team now. That's why we're approaching the game as a big task, but we're traveling to Munich with self-confidence, confidence and certainly not without a chance."

"It's a very attractive draw, it's a shame it's not at our place," said RB ambassador Perry Bräutigam on ARD. "Bayern are of course miles away, but anything is possible in the cup."

Bayern have always been victorious in the cup so far

The two teams will meet for the third time in the DFB Cup. In 2017, Munich won in Leipzig in the 2nd round after a penalty shoot-out, while Bayern won the final 3-0 in 2019. However, RB's ability to win cup matches against Munich was demonstrated in 2023, when the Saxons won 3-0 in Munich.

RB had beaten 1. FC Magdeburg 3-1 in the round of 16. Prior to that, the Saxons had beaten SV Sandhausen 4-2 in the first round and then FC Energie Cottbus 4-1.
