Jens Härtel returns to Union Berlin - as U19 coach. What he has in common with the Eisern.

Half a year after taking a leave of absence from third-division soccer club FC Erzgebirge Aue, Jens Härtel will take on a coaching job again. The 56-year-old will take over the U19 juniors of 1. FC Union Berlin for the new season, as the Köpenicker announced. Before his time with the Saxons, Härtel was already coach at Eintracht Braunschweig, Hansa Rostock and 1. FC Magdeburg.

Härtel will succeed Marie-Louise Eta at the A-Juniors. The 34-year-old coached the team until mid-April before being promoted to head coach of the Bundesliga team. Former defender Härtel spent five years with the Irons during his playing days.

According to the club, he played a total of 158 competitive matches for the Irons and scored 26 goals. "I'm really looking forward to my new role at Union and returning to a club with which I have very strong ties," said the Saxon-born player, who ended his playing career in 2005.
