1. FC Magdeburg are slipping deeper and deeper into the relegation battle in the 2nd Bundesliga. Christian Titz's team were held to a 0-0 draw at newly promoted SV Elversberg on Saturday and have now gone five league games without a goal. In front of around 8864 spectators, Elversberg initially created a slight advantage in chances, but it was not enough to win against visitors who were stronger after the changeover. SVE have not scored in their last three games.
Magdeburg remain twelfth with 32 points, but are only two points clear of the relegation places. FC Schalke 04 and Eintracht Braunschweig could overtake Titz's team as early as Sunday. Although Elversberg have a slightly bigger cushion with 36 points, they are not through yet either, especially in view of their own form slump.
The duel offered few highlights, especially before the break. Visiting goalkeeper Dominik Reimann was the player of the day, thwarting several great chances from the Saarland side. Magdeburg became stronger with the introduction of attacking player Tatsuya Ito at the break and created their own opportunities, but it was not enough to score for the first time since February 24.
