Former Leipzig player Xaver Schlager is moving to England. The Austrian national team soccer player was introduced as Nottingham Forest’s first new signing for the upcoming season. The 28-year-old midfielder was most recently under contract with Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, but he did not renew his contract.
At Forest, Schlager will be reunited with newly appointed head coach Oliver Glasner. “I played under him in Wolfsburg, and I know how he works and what style of play he prefers. That was a major reason for me to come here,” said Schlager.
Glasner and Schlager worked together at VfL Wolfsburg from 2019 to 2021. Since joining RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022, Schlager has played a total of 108 competitive matches. Despite efforts by the Bundesliga club, his contract was not extended.
