The Niners Chemnitz basketball team also lost its second playoff game in the best-of-five series against MLP Academics Heidelberg. The club from Saxony lost 70:74 (33:36) at MLP Academics Heidelberg. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore had also lost the first game by the narrow margin of 90:93 (44:46) and so faces elimination.
Ryan Mikesell (19), Michael Weathers (16), Damariae Horne (14) and Paul Zipser (10) played the biggest part in Heidelberg's success. Victor Bailey Jr. (21), Kevin Yebo (19) and Olivier Nkamhoua (10) scored the most points for the visitors.
The club from Saxony missed the opening spell and trailed by 5:12 after four minutes, but managed to turn the game around and move 27:23 in front in the 14th minute. An open exchange of blows then ensued. Heidelberg led 56:48 shortly before the end of the third quarter, but the Niners turned the tables again and were 68:66 in front with two minutes remaining. However, Heidelberg made the better decisions in the decisive phase of the game. The number of turnovers (15 for Chemnitz, 12 for Heidelberg) and the air superiority under the basket (44:39) ultimately tipped the scales in favor of the home side.
