The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has also lost its second game of the new Bundesliga season. Coach Rodrio Pastore’s team fell to the Veolia Towers Hamburg 90–94 (83–83, 43–42). Stefan Smith led the visitors in scoring with 19 points. In a fast-paced but disjointed opening stretch, neither team was initially able to gain an advantage. Early in the second quarter, Chemnitz pulled ahead by five points for the first time (29–24). The visitors appeared more dynamic in their play, but because they had already committed twelve turnovers by halftime, Hamburg was able to close the gap again. After the break, Chemnitz stepped up the intensity on defense and increasingly dominated under the basket. However, their turnover rate remained too high to build a comfortable lead. With a 7–0 run, Hamburg even took the lead with 104 seconds remaining (80–79). The visitors countered with four points to make it 83–80, but Noah Thomasson sent the Towers into overtime.
