The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has suffered a setback in the German league. The team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore surrendered a ten-point lead in the final quarter at Rasta Vechta and lost by 78:80 (42:45). In front of 3,140 spectators, Amadou Sow was the best scorer for Chemnitz, who finished eleventh with 22:26 points (15 points).
The Niners impressed in the opening spell with quick ball movement and pulled 20:11 ahead by the eighth minute. However, the home side then went on a hot run from the three-point line after a timeout and turned the game around with a 14:0 run to make it 25:20 in the 11th minute. When Pastore's players stepped up their intensity in defense after the break, they gradually regained control and were ahead by double digits for the first time at the start of the final quarter (71:61).
Vechta again found the right response, however, and struck back with a 12:0 run to make it 73:71 in the 35th minute. The home side missed five free throws in the hectic final spell, but Chemnitz was no longer able to turn the game around due to its poor three-point field goal percentage (8/33). Eric Washington missed the last shot as the final buzzer sounded.
