The Niners Chemnitz basketball team started the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with a defeat. The rebuilt team of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore was defeated 81:94 (38:42) at runners-up ratiopharm Ulm on Sunday. Kevin Yebo was the Niners' best scorer with 18 points in front of 5,301 spectators. Ex-Chemnitz player Nelson Weidemann excelled for Ulm with 21 points.
The Niners got off to a furious start and led 17:10 after four minutes. New signing Ty Brewer in particular was unstoppable and had already scored twelve points by the end of the first quarter. However, the visitors' shooting percentage then dropped significantly. Ulm fought its way back into the game and led narrowly at the break.
The tempo picked up again significantly after the break. Chemnitz did not allow itself to be shaken off in a high-class exchange of blows and kept within touching distance up to 68:70 in the 32nd minute, before conceding avoidable turnovers to spark a 9:0 run by Ulm to make it 79:68 in the 35th minute. After that, the Niners were no longer able to get within striking distance.
