Manchester City coach Enzo Maresca is calling for goals not only from his star striker Erling Haaland, but also from the rest of his team. “It’s important that we have our chances in every game and that we create opportunities for ourselves. When Erling Haaland is on the field, our chances of scoring are high, but we can’t always rely solely on him,” Maresca said ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League match (9:00 p.m./DAZN) against RB Leipzig, emphasizing: “We also have to expect the other players to score.” Haaland has gone scoreless in his last three competitive matches. The Norwegian has fond memories of facing RB, however; in March 2023, he scored five goals in a 7-0 win over Leipzig. In the current group stage of the Champions League, Man City has secured two wins so far: against AEK Athens (5–1) and at FC Porto (2–0). They did, however, suffer a setback at home against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain (2–4). In the Premier League, the club—which faces a severe penalty for violating financial regulations—had previously lost its lead in the standings following a 0–1 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion and a 1–2 defeat at Aston Villa. The team had started the season with seven league wins. Phil Foden, who recently had to sit out due to a red-card suspension, wants to contribute to the team’s offensive firepower. “I hope to get back to my previous level. I’m involved in scoring goals, which feels good,” said the English national team player. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
