Ole Werner and Alexander Blessin are being touted as new candidates in the difficult search for a coach at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. According to the German newspaper "Kicker", the Spaniard Cesc Fabregas from Como 1907 and former Bundesliga coach Oliver Glasner from Crystal Palace are still the preferred candidates, but signing them is proving difficult.
According to information from "Bild", an agreement has even been reached with Fabregas, but Como does not want to release the successful coach. Leipzig would probably have to pay a high transfer fee - an amount in excess of 20 million euros is being discussed - which the Saxons are apparently not prepared to do. Glasner, who led Crystal Palace to the FA Cup triumph over Manchester City, recently rated the likelihood of him staying at 99 per cent.
Werner just released in Bremen
RB, where the coaching post has been vacant since Marco Rose left in March, are said to be looking at other candidates. Werner was released by Werder Bremen last week after refusing to extend his contract. The 37-year-old had led the Hanseatic side to promotion over the past three-and-a-half years and then stabilized them in the Bundesliga for three years.
Blessin, who managed to stay in the league with FC St. Pauli, has a history with RB. Between 2012 and 2018, the 50-year-old coached Leipzig's youngsters.
The fact that the club is not represented internationally for the first time in its Bundesliga history after finishing seventh last season and is facing upheaval makes the search even more difficult for RB.
