A year ago, national volleyball player Sarah Straube left for Italy. Now the setter is returning to the Bundesliga and to her roots in Dresden.

Bundesliga volleyball club Dresdner SC presented its first new signing for the coming season on Tuesday following the eight departures and caused a surprise with this personnel decision. National player Sarah Straube is returning to her former club after a year in Italy and has signed a one-year contract, according to the German runners-up.

The Suhl-born player, who trained at the VC Olympia Dresden talent academy and managed the Bundesliga team from 2019 to 2025, played for Italian first division club Omag-MT San Giovanni in Marignano last season.

"I'm delighted to be part of Dresdner SC again. The club and the people here mean a lot to me and I missed the atmosphere in my home arena. It also appealed to me to play for titles with DSC again and, above all, internationally," said the 24-year-old, who also had other offers from Italy, explaining her decision.

Coach Alexander Waibl said: "I'm delighted. Of course I've followed Sarah's progress, she played a strong season in Italy. We have big goals again in the new season and we need an outstanding setter for that. That's why I'm glad that she has decided to return. I think it's also a good sign for the Bundesliga as a whole."
