Despite defeat: Dynamo avoids direct relegation

History repeats itself. Exactly one year ago, Dynamo Dresden lost at SV Waldhof Mannheim on the penultimate matchday of the 3rd division. And celebrated the defeat like a victory, because the competition for promotion to the third division played along and the Dresdeners climbed into the elevator to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Twelve months later, a similar scenario: Dynamo lost 2-1 at Eintracht Braunschweig, but SpVgg Greuther Fürth were also defeated at Hertha BSC. Dresden have already avoided direct relegation one matchday before the end of the season.

Now they have to get at least one point against Holstein Kiel on the final matchday on Sunday (3.30 pm/Sky) to avoid having to go into the relegation play-offs.

Getting stupid goals against in Braunschweig

The Saxons didn't really want to get involved in such a nail-biter, however, but wanted to make everything clear themselves with a point in Braunschweig. "We're definitely annoyed," said Lukas Boeder, who had stepped into central defense at short notice for Friedrich Müller, who was ill. Thomas Wagner had seen a good game from his colleagues after the 2-0 defeat. "With the chances we had, we deserved to take a point," said the midfielder.

Coach Thomas Stamm criticized the efficiency on the one hand and the defensive behaviour on the other. "We conceded very little overall, but lacked the desire for second balls in the crucial situations," said Stamm. It was a game in which a lot went for his team, but the team did not reward itself.

Stamm looks for the sure penalty taker

One point of discussion in Braunschweig was Stefan Kutschke's missed penalty. Vincent Vermeij had already missed a penalty in the defeat against Hertha BSC, which led to a one-goal defeat, just like this time.

"We have very stable shooters in training. It's difficult to simulate a competitive situation. For me, it's crucial to see the conviction that the players want to take responsibility. That is 100 times more important than anything else," said Stamm.

They currently "don't have the stable shooter that Kane is. But that also means that I'm fully convinced that if we get a penalty next Sunday, we might be able to take it," continued the Dynamo coach.
