Falko Michel was the most sought-after man at the Kaiserstuhlstadion in Bahlingen. The professional soccer player from Magdeburg had to give numerous interviews in his old hometown after the 4-0 (3-0) victory in the first round of the DFB Cup. He patiently worked his way through the schedule, while outside the locker rooms, many young autograph hunters were waiting for the player of the match. “A really wonderful day,” Michel summed up happily, “lots of family members were there, all my friends. And then two goals on top of that—it’s perfect, of course.”
He had to secure over 20 tickets for friends and family, the 25-year-old midfielder explained. They witnessed the first two-goal performance of Michel’s professional career. He scored the 2-0 goal with a precise header off a cross from Baris Atik, and for the 4-0 goal, he benefited from excellent setup play by Tobias Müller. That was top-notch finishing in the penalty area—unplanned, according to Michel, but: “I’m glad it worked out that way in the end.”
