Coach Manuel Baum is relying on special motivation for FC Augsburg's away game at RB Leipzig. Before the trip to Saxony, he deliberately reminded his Bundesliga footballers of the home embarrassment against RB in the first half of the season. "That 0:6 is still hanging over us," said Baum ahead of the game on Saturday (3.30pm/Sky). "That's certainly motivation enough for us to make amends in Leipzig - ideally with a win away from home." The coach described how he only showed his team the result - but not videos of the defeat.
At the time, Sandro Wagner was still the coach of FCA; under the ex-professional and former assistant to national coach Julian Nagelsmann, the hoped-for successes failed to materialize. That changed when Baum took over: Augsburg are actually level on points with leaders Bayern Munich and second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the table for the second half of the season. Before the 25th matchday, the Swabians are just three points behind seventh place - which could entitle them to take part in the Conference League at the end of the season.
