1. FC Magdeburg went into the international break with a heavy setback. The Blue & Whites lost 3-0 (0-2) against Hamburger SV in front of 27,270 spectators on Friday evening. In a one-sided game, Ransford Königsdörffer (9th, 53rd) and Marcus Mathisen (15th, own goal) scored for HSV, with FCM playing a major part in all the goals conceded. Magdeburg remain fourth in the table for the time being.
"It was a game that we decided against us," said FCM coach Christian Titz. We brought our opponents into the game through our own mistakes. We struggled in defense and in attack. It wasn't as if we didn't have any chances. You need your own form against an opponent like that, and some players didn't have it today," emphasized the coach.
The FCM coach was once again forced to make changes in defence: Marcus Mathisen and Jean Hugonet returned, but Daniel Heber was suspended with a yellow card. Samuel Loric replaced the injured Lubambo Musonda on the wing. The two best attacking players in the league immediately looked to get forward in the direct duel, with HSV tending to switch quickly. Königsdörffer had the first chance of the game after a corner hit the crossbar of the FCM goal (5').
