1. FC Magdeburg started the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga season with a win. In front of 22,436 spectators, the Elbe city team won 3:0 (1:0) at Eintracht Braunschweig. Mateusz Zukowski (41st minute), Baris Atik (79th) and Maximilian Breunig (90th) scored for FCM against harmless hosts. Magdeburg are now unbeaten in five league games in a row and have climbed to 13th in the table with 20 points.
"We can play to nil and can score goals. We were always aware that at some point the time would come when that would work again. In the end, nothing has been won with today's game," said FCM captain and goalkeeper Dominik Reimann.
Magdeburg coach Petrik Sander fielded exactly the same starting line-up as in the 3-2 win in Kaiserslautern. There are currently no new signings for Magdeburg anyway. Even before kick-off, Sander had emphasized that they would not change their approach to the game, as his players felt comfortable playing possession soccer. Zukowski could have scored early on, but was denied by Braunschweig keeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann (1st).
