SC Magdeburg remains first in pursuit of the top teams in the German Handball League. The SCM won 32:29 (17:12) at HSG Wetzlar and climbed to fourth place, but has still played two games less than the top trio. Füchse Berlin and MT Melsungen (44:10) are tied on points, with Hannover-Burgdorf (41:13) ahead of Magdeburg (39:11). Magdeburg's top scorer in Wetzlar was Omar Ingi Magnusson with ten goals and five assists.
Magdeburg got into the game well in defense in front of 4,050 spectators, but was not able to pull away because the club from the Elbe city made too many mistakes in attack. As a result, SCM even trailed briefly before Magdeburg produced a 4:0 run to level the scores (7:4/13th minute). Wetzlar recovered and reduced the deficit to one goal (9:8/20th minute). Nevertheless, the favorites from the Elbe clearly led 17:12 at the break.
