The third attempt at promotion to the third soccer league should be successful. A good first leg result should form the basis.

With a lot of respect for a very experienced opponent, but without fear of failing again, 1. FC Lok Leipzig goes into the relegation play-off for promotion to the 3rd soccer league against Würzburger Kickers.

The champions of the Regionalliga Nordost will welcome the runners-up from the Regionalliga Bayern to their home ground, the Bruno-Plache-Stadion, on Thursday (19:00/MagentaSport) and want to lay the foundations for a successful end to the season. "I want a result that leaves everything open for the second leg. That's the most important thing, because I don't think there will be a decision for one side in the first leg," said coach Jochen Seitz.

It doesn't matter what the result might be. "At best, we'll leave here with a win, but if it's a draw, then so be it. If it's a narrow defeat, then so be it. Then we'll try to turn it around in Würzburg," said Seitz.

Würzburg has the greater experience

In terms of experience, the Lok coach believes his opponents have a slight advantage. "Many players have already played in the second and third leagues over longer periods of time. With the exception of Filip Kusic, we don't have a player who has played at a higher level for more than one season," said Seitz.

He demands that his players do their job. "We have to defend well, we have to get into tackles well, we have to have a good transition game and we need effectiveness, which will probably be crucial," said the coach. As the relegation matches of the past few days have shown, it's the little things that decide in the end.

Lok Leipzig are in the relegation play-off for third division promotion for the third time. In 2020, the club was defeated by SC Verl and last season by TSV Havelse.
