The Niners Chemnitz basketball team has defended its leading position in the German league thanks to an outstanding performance by Kevin Yebo. The players of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore celebrated a convincing 99:77 (49:39) triumph at penultimate-placed MLP Academics Heidelberg on Saturday. Apart from Yebo (33 points), Kaza Kajami-Keane and Tylor Ongwae (11 apiece) also played a big part in the Saxons' 15th win of the season. Marcel Keßen (18), Josh Gray (17), Jeffrey Carroll (12) and Isaiah Whaley (10) scored the most points for the home side.
The relegation-threatened hosts were able to keep the encounter open until the 16th minute. Chemnitz then pulled ten points ahead from 34:33 by the break. At the start of the third quarter, the league leaders produced a 14:0 run to make it 63:39 (23') in the space of three minutes and so broke Heidelberg's morale. The Niners were even 83:46 in front in the 31st minute before the home side was able to put the finishing touches to the result.
