Second division soccer club Hannover 96 has appointed Paul Wagner as head of squad planning and scouting. As the club announced, the 27-year-old comes from league rivals Dynamo Dresden. There, he was jointly responsible for putting together the squad with which the Saxons achieved promotion to Bundesliga 2 in 2025 and stayed in the second division in the season just ended. He was made redundant in Dresden in April.
"He was our preferred solution for this position because he fits exactly into the profile we had defined for his role," said 96 sporting director Ralf Becker (55) according to a statement. He knows Wagner from his own time at Dynamo Dresden. Becker was sporting director there from 2020 to 2024. Wagner also started at Dynamo in 2020.
On Thursday, Hannover 96 announced Jonas Boldt (44) as the new sporting director and successor to Jörg Schmadtke. The former sports director of Hamburger SV will take up his post on Monday.
