Sören Gonther has been appointed Managing Director Sport at second-division soccer club Dynamo Dresden as of January 1. He succeeds Thomas Brendel, who was relieved of his duties at the beginning of November. The 39-year-old Gonther was most recently managing director at KSV Hessen Kassel and worked as a pundit for the TV channel "Sky".
With Gonther, a Dynamo insider is returning to Dresden. He played for the Black & Yellows from 2017 to 2019 before moving to arch-rivals FC Erzgebirge Aue. He played a total of 294 second division games, including for SC Paderborn and FC St. Pauli. Gonther had already submitted his application when the position was advertised in 2024. At the time, however, the supervisory board opted for Brendel.
