The German handball champions, SC Magdeburg, are currently without eleven national team players. The three Icelanders—Gisli Kristjansson, Elvar Örn Jonsson, and Omar Ingi Magnusson—are set to compete in the European Championship qualifiers for the 2028 tournament in Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland. They’ll face Ukraine this Wednesday and then Estonia four days later. SCM pros Antonio Serradilla, with host Spain, and Magnus Saugstrup, with defending champion Denmark, have already qualified. The two will compete in the Euro Cup alongside Switzerland and Portugal—the two Magdeburg players will then face off against each other on November 4 (8:15 p.m.). Representing Sweden are Felix Claar, Albin Lagergren, Oscar Bergendahl, and Daniel Petterson—they will play against Greece (Nov. 5) and Luxembourg (Nov. 8). The two SCM goalkeepers, Matej Mandic and Dominik Kuzmanovic, will play with Croatia in the qualifying matches against Lithuania (November 4) and Finland (November 7). However, training in Magdeburg continues as usual. Bennet Wiegert is leading various training sessions with the remaining team, along with several players from the second team and the youth squad.
