Two games, two wins: Timo Werner's US adventure could hardly be going better. What coach Arena still expects from his star in the coming weeks.

Timo Werner also played a decisive role in the victory in his second outing for his new club San José Earthquakes. The former international set up the 1-0 win at Philadelphia Union one day after his 30th birthday with a dream pass. The Earthquakes thus also won their third game of the still young season in the North American soccer league MLS.

"Timo is a quality player. We know that he will not only set up goals, but also score goals the longer we work with him," said coach Bruce Arena. Werner came on as a second-half substitute and set up the goal of the day for Ousseni Bouda in the 59th minute. Werner had already set up a goal for the striker from Burkina Faso in his first appearance for the Earthquakes against Atlanta.

Full fitness still missing

Werner got more playing time than around a week ago, but the 30-year-old is still not physically fit enough for the starting eleven. "He still needs a little time to reach full fitness. We want to do it the right way and not overload him and cause an injury," explained Arena. The 74-year-old expects Werner to be "really fit to play in about a month's time."

Before his move to the USA, Werner had hardly featured at RB Leipzig. Since the summer, only three short appearances in the Bundesliga with a total of just 13 minutes playing time were on the goalscorer's record. Due to the impending birth of his daughter, Werner also spent large parts of February in Leipzig and thus missed the Earthquakes' preparations for the new season.
