Dynamo coach after setback: "Don't question everything"

Dynamo Dresden could have taken a big step towards relegation in Düsseldorf. But they lacked "the punch in front of goal". Now things are getting tight once again.

The setback at fellow rivals in Düsseldorf leaves Dynamo Dresden with many questions. Because instead of pulling away, the Saxons slipped further into the basement of the 2nd Bundesliga after the 3-1 defeat. "What's the best way to sum it up?" asked defender Thomas Keller. It's the chain of mistakes in defense. And up front, "we lacked a bit of punch in front of goal".

For striker Vincent Vermeij, Dynamo were "clearly the better team". But Fortuna "virtually took half chances". Cedric Itten (11th minute), Emmanuel Iyoha (17th) and Luca Raimund (58th) scored the goals for the Rhinelanders. It was the first win for Düsseldorf after five defeats in a row. Dresden had recently won twice in a row and could have taken a big step forward with a hat-trick of wins. However, a late goal from Jakob Lemmer (90') was not enough. Now it's back to trembling.

Both Fortuna and Eintracht Braunschweig (2:0 in Kaiserslautern) came back to within one point of Dynamo. Two more clashes against direct relegation rivals follow in the final three matchdays of the regular season against Braunschweig and Holstein Kiel.

Stamm: "We have to stay clear"

Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm was disappointed with the performance. "When you see the opportunities you have and then the result, it's extremely bitter," he said on Sky. "I'm basically satisfied with the way we played." Stamm calls for clarity for the decisive phase of the season. "We mustn't question everything now," he said. "We have to stay clear. We have to shake it off. These are close games. We can draw the games again at home against Kaiserslautern, in Braunschweig and against Kiel. If we are more efficient."

Too easy goals conceded

Fortuna were far more efficient on coach Alexander Ende's home debut. The goals conceded were altogether too easy. For the opening goal, a long clearance from Fortuna keeper Florian Kastenmeier slipped through to Itten, who ran free towards the Dynamo goal. The Düsseldorf goalkeeper Tim Schreiber, who was by far the top scorer, confidently slotted home. Robert Wagner then deflected Iyoha's shot after a corner and it was 2:0.

Dynamo still had chances. But Wagner failed to beat the strong Kastenmeier (34') and Schreiber saved from Itten at the other end (41'). When Raimund made it 3:0 after the break, the game was decided. Even Lemmer's late goal did nothing to change that.
