With an axis of experienced players and promising talents, Thomas Brendel wants to make the third-division soccer club Dynamo Dresden competitive and ready for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. At his presentation as Dynamo's new sporting director on Tuesday, Brendel said that the club has everything it needs for higher-class soccer. "The infrastructure with the academy, the stadium, the fans - no other third division club can offer all that." With the charisma and power of the club, a lot is possible.
The 48-year-old took over from Ralf Becker as sporting director on Monday; the club parted ways with Becker in March. He is an unknown quantity in the industry above the regional league. Most recently, Brendel worked as sports director at FSV Frankfurt. In his soccer career, however, he also worked as a player for Kickers Offenbach and FSV Frankfurt, among others, but also as a coach for Borussia Fulda and FSV Frankfurt, among others.
He has a large network from this time and knows many advisors, especially of young players. "That's my main focus. In addition to players who know and master the league, I also want to bring players to Dresden who will ensure continuity in the coming years," said Brendel.
