The Dresden SC women's volleyball team have bounced back impressively three days after their clear 3-0 defeat in Stuttgart. The German cup winners won the top match against the German champions SSC Palmberg Schwerin 3:2 (25:23, 21:25, 24:26, 25:20, 15:6) after trailing 1:2 in sets. The club from Mecklenburg thus missed out on revenge for the Supercup, which Dresden had also won four weeks earlier.
In front of an impressive crowd of 3,000 spectators in the sold-out arena, the two teams fought out a thrilling and hard-fought battle right to the end. After the hosts had narrowly won the first set, Schwerin turned the game in its favor in the next two periods with a powerful service game and good blocking and court defense.
The Supercup winners came back in the fourth set and brought more energy to the court. In particular, diagonal attacker Marta Levinska (26 points in total), who was later honored as the most valuable player, showed great form.
The set equalizer gave Alexander Waibl's charges a tailwind. In the tie-break set, they gave the Mecklenburgers, who allowed themselves a few more mistakes, no chance and converted the first match point with a block after 128 hard-fought minutes.
