Dresdner SC's volleyball players won their first play-off quarter-final match against USC Münster 3:0 (28:26, 25:22, 25:19). The second match will take place in Münster on Wednesday. Should Münster equalize in the best-of-three series, the game would be decided next Saturday in Dresden.
The hosts produced a mature performance in front of 2,480 spectators three days after the tough European Cup game in Chieri, Italy. Despite their tired legs, the DSC players were always able to step up their game in the decisive moments against a tactically well-prepared fifth-placed team from Münster.
With clever solutions in attack and a stable block and court defense, Alexander Waibl's charges came up trumps in the first two tight sets in particular. In crunch time, they also made fewer mistakes than the visitors, who bravely stood up to the favorites for long stretches.
