Dramatic scenes unfolded just before the scheduled start of a hockey game in Dresden. Thousands of spectators fled from the arena into the open air. The fire department arrived on the scene. Then the crowd cheered—it was a false alarm.

Panic and stress before the opening faceoff at a second-division hockey game in Dresden. When a siren wailed, the fire department was called. “We have a technical malfunction. Please leave the building promptly, but without rushing, using the marked emergency exits, and proceed to the outdoors,” read the announcement at the Joynext Arena, which was preceded by the siren.

The approximately 3,000 spectators left the arena in Dresden. Then, at 7:41 p.m., it turned out to be just a false alarm. Cheers erupted among the fans. As a result, instead of the originally scheduled 7:30 p.m. start, the DEL2 game between the Dresdner Eislöwen and the Blue Devils Weiden did not begin until 8:00 p.m. The Dresden team won the game against the second-to-last-place team in the standings 5–1 (2–0, 2–0, 1–1).
