RB Leipzig coach Martin Demichelis responded to the ongoing discussions about him following the team’s away victory against FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga, making a clear statement in the process. “If we haven’t achieved a goal by the end of the season, then I’ll leave on my own. That’s how it is. The people who know me know that very well,” said Demichelis when asked about the pressure and what the 2-0 win against the promoted team meant for him personally. “It’s getting boring to hear this question. I know I have to achieve goals with RB Leipzig. That’s why I came here. But today was only the eighth matchday. The season is still long. But I know I have to achieve our goals,” explained the 45-year-old. He knows full well that he has to win games. “We haven’t achieved any goals yet today—we just picked up three points and our first away win,” he said. Demichelis didn’t want to downplay the significance of that, however. “It was very, very important for us,” the coach emphasized. His team had had to wait a long time for this victory. “Today was our best away game against a very difficult and tough opponent,” he said. Schalke is an unpleasant opponent that allows very few chances. “We scored two goals and kept a clean sheet,” Demichelis summed up with satisfaction. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de).
