1. FC Magdeburg conceded their first defeat of the season on matchday nine of the 2nd Bundesliga. The Blue & Whites lost 3-1 (0-3) at Hamburger SV after four recent away wins. Ransford Königsdörffer (5'), Noah Katterbach (42') and Davie Selke (45') scored for HSV. After Hamburg's Sebastian Schonlau was shown a straight red for an emergency brake (57'), Martijn Kaars reduced the deficit with a foul penalty (63'). The FCM slipped to fourth place in the table with their first away defeat.
"We imagined the first half very differently, in terms of access, defense and possession. We didn't do that well and the goals came far too easily. As a result, the game was already decided," said Magdeburg's Daniel Heber.
In the first game without full-back Lubambo Musonda (torn tendon), FCM coach Christian Titz put Daniel Heber in the full-back position. Baris Atik celebrated his comeback in the starting eleven, while Livan Burcu initially took a place on the bench. The teams did not allow each other a period of rest, instead HSV took the lead with their first attack. While the first cross from the right missed the box, the second attempt from the left found Königsdörffer, who nodded in freely.
