Several hundred events and projects are already being prepared throughout the state for the Year of Jewish Culture in Saxony 2026. The Ministry of Culture in Dresden announced that Mark Dainow, Vice President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, has now been appointed Co-Chairman of the Board of Trustees, which will oversee the implementation. He was elected as the successor to Nora Goldenbogen (1949-2024).
The war in Israel and the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe showed "how important this project is right now", said Culture Minister Barbara Klepsch (CDU). The organizers are focusing on ideas and projects with a lasting impact. "Jewish history and culture is diverse and multifaceted and is a natural part of Saxony - we want to make that clear."
Dainow believes it is important "that there is more space for Jewish topics in Saxony and that the Jewish religion can be practiced freely". 2026 should give people access to Jewish culture "to get an open, unprejudiced picture, to get into conversation with each other".
