Michael Kretschmer has been at the helm of the CDU in Saxony since 2017. This will remain the case for the next two years.

Michael Kretschmer, Minister President of Saxony, has been re-elected as chairman of the CDU in Saxony. The 50-year-old received 83.04 percent of the vote at a party conference in Leipzig. He did not have a rival candidate.

In the previous election in 2023, around 89% of delegates voted for Kretschmer. He achieved his best result in 2019 with 95.5%. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2021, he had suffered a setback with 76.35%.

The state executive committee is elected every two years. 230 delegates attended the party conference at the Congress Center at Leipziger Messe.

As a guest at the party conference, Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) gave a welcoming address in which he defended his tightened migration policy and condemned violence against police officers during protests against the founding of a new AfD youth organization in Giessen.
