The construction of Germany's largest solar thermal plant to date in Leipzig is slowly approaching the home straight. The pipes connecting the plant to the district heating network are to be laid from November, said project manager Erik Jelinek. After a trial run next spring, the plant will supply district heating for Leipzig from May 2026.
The Leipziger Stadtwerke project will cost 40 million euros. The plant will cover two percent of the annual district heating requirement in the trade fair city. It is a building block for the decarbonization of district heating, which has so far been generated mainly from gas and coal.
