The CDU Leipzig wants to put forward Michael Weickert as its candidate in the 2027 Leipzig mayoral election. Following intensive discussions within the party, it has decided to put forward the chairman of the CDU parliamentary group on Leipzig City Council, the district executive announced. A general meeting is to decide on the candidacy on June 23.
The Leipzig Lord Mayor election is scheduled for February 21, 2027. SPD politician Burkhard Jung is not standing again after three terms in office. So far, seven candidates have put themselves forward for the position of mayor. With Skadi Jennicke (Left Party), only one woman is running so far. The SPD wants to put Saxony's Economics Minister Dirk Panter in the running.
