Saxony recorded fewer new refugees and fewer deportations in the first quarter. Which countries are particularly affected and how many have left voluntarily.

In Saxony, the number of asylum seekers and deportations fell in the first quarter of the year. According to the state directorate in Chemnitz, a total of 1,059 refugees were registered in the state up to April - 519 fewer than in the same period last year. 235 people who were required to leave the country were deported in the same period - 25 fewer than a year earlier.

The majority of deportations were to Turkey, Georgia, Serbia, North Macedonia and India, according to the report. In 93 cases, the people concerned were criminals, it added.

377 people left the country voluntarily, the report continues. This includes both self-financed departures and those that were financially supported. Most returnees left Germany for Syria, Turkey, Venezuela, Russia and Georgia.
