Saxony's state parliament will be a construction site for years to come. According to the Saxon State Real Estate and Construction Management (SIB), it is due to be completed in June. The construction fences are currently being erected. The excavation of the building pit and special civil engineering work for the extension are scheduled for the second half of the year. The state parliament provided information about the first steps on Wednesday. The news portal Tag24 reported first.
According to the SIB, the extension will cost around 73.6 million euros. The so-called cube in the courtyard of the state parliament is estimated to cost 38.7 million euros. It will take around four years to complete the two new buildings. Only then can the renovation of the old building begin. This is because the MPs must first move into their new offices in the extension.
In 2019, the state-owned company SIB commissioned the office of state parliament architect Peter Kulka (1937-2024) to plan the renovation and extension. Following his death in 2004, the project is now being continued by his daughter Katrin Leers-Kulka.
