In memory of the victims and those injured in the suspected Islamist attack on the outskirts of the CSD in Berlin, flags in Saxony are flying at half-mast. The State Chancellery announced that flags are to be flown at half-mast at all government buildings in the Free State. These include, among others, the ministries, state agencies, and the police.
On Saturday evening, a driver plowed into a crowd of people in Berlin’s Tiergarten park on the outskirts of the CSD. He is then said to have attacked other passersby with a bladed weapon—presumably a machete. One woman died in the attack, and 29 other people suffered injuries, some of them serious. The 21-year-old suspected perpetrator was shot and killed on Sunday during a police operation to arrest him.
