Saxony’s Minister-President Michael Kretschmer has voiced his support for his Thuringian counterpart Mario Voigt (both CDU) following Voigt’s decision to accept the revocation of his doctoral degree. “Mario Voigt has my full support,” said Kretschmer. Voigt’s prioritization deserves respect. “He is willing to end the legal dispute over his doctoral degree because his work for Thuringia is more important to him.” He knows Voigt as a state premier who takes responsibility. “He formed a government in a difficult political situation, is uniting it, and is working to advance Thuringia economically and socially,” said Kretschmer. Voigt had previously announced that he had withdrawn a lawsuit filed with the Chemnitz Administrative Court challenging the revocation of his doctoral degree. He explained that he wanted to focus on his work as head of government. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reserved
