Chancellor Merz honors associations for their social commitment. A special award goes to Saxony in the Vogtland region.

Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz has honored associations and initiatives for their social commitment at the Chancellery. The CDU politician is the patron of the "startsocial" competition, which recognizes special educational, leisure, health and sports activities in local communities.

Seven initiatives were awarded a cash prize of 5,000 euros each this year. The Chancellor's special prize with the same amount of prize money went to SV Triebel e.V. from Saxony. Merz praised the club for offering far more than the standard program in its departments. Children and young people can have a say, take on responsibility and learn to trust their own abilities. "The club is a role model for democratic cooperation, respect, diversity and team spirit," said Merz.
