In the discussion about the new Saxon budget, the SPD parliamentary group insists on the possibility of taking on new debt. "We will have to continue to invest in the coming years in order to give the economy new momentum and ensure cohesion in our society," explained parliamentary group leader Henning Homann. "It is therefore clear that we will not be able to get by without taking out loans in this legislative period." The CDU, on the other hand, had recently rejected new debt.
According to Homann, the SPD primarily has the municipalities in mind. "All federal states are planning to use the new leeway in the Basic Law to strengthen their municipalities. It would be absurd if Saxony were the only federal state to opt out," said the parliamentary group leader.
