Newly arriving refugees from Ukraine are currently being transferred from Saxony to other federal states because the state has reached its admission quota. As of November 24, the Free State of Saxony had taken in 289 more people from Ukraine than it should have according to the nationwide distribution key, the Saxony State Directorate announced on Friday in response to an inquiry. The refugees are automatically allocated to federal states that have taken in a below-average number of people. The situation could change again at short notice.
So far this year, 6321 refugees from Ukraine have been registered in Saxony, according to the state directorate. According to the Central Register of Foreigners, there are a total of almost 60,000 Ukrainian refugees in the Free State.
The refugees are distributed to the federal states via a system called "Free". A balance between the federal states according to certain quotas is necessary so that schools, kindergartens, medical facilities and accommodation are not overloaded. According to the state directorate, it has already happened several times in the past that Saxony has taken in more Ukrainians than it should have according to the quota.
