The head of the AfD parliamentary group has imposed disciplinary measures against Matthias Moosdorf, a member of parliament from Saxony. The former foreign policy spokesperson for the parliamentary group has been ordered to pay a fine of 5,000 euros, is not allowed to speak in the Bundestag for six weeks and is not allowed to appear at parliamentary group events for three months.
The decision was made at a meeting of the AfD parliamentary group's executive committee on Monday afternoon. A spokesperson for the parliamentary group confirmed this to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The news portal "t-online" had initially reported on the decision.
The decision was based on differences of opinion about the political course and mutual personal attacks. In a letter to his parliamentary group colleagues that became public, Moosdorf had harshly attacked the current foreign policy spokesperson, parliamentary group vice-chairman and chairman of the parliamentary group's foreign policy working group, Markus Frohnmaier, and indirectly called for his replacement.
